ZOE Ministry School Projects

Imagine being a child and having only rags to wear. Imagine being a child who has never owned a pair of shoes. Imagine being a child who shivers at night because of the cold. ZOE Ministry has given clothes to some 2,500 children since being founded in June of 2004. Many children who were cold at night are now warm and snug under new blankets they have received. Education is highly valued among children of Africa, but the modest school fees make it out of reach for many. It only takes around $5.00 per term for children to attend primary school. ZOE pays the school expenses for orphans in Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. We provide most of the school clothing through our sewing coops we have helped to establish. By providing sewing machines, fabric, and accessories, we are able to hire women in local communties to produce school clothing for the orphans we for whom we care. Our Vacation Bible School outreach project has collected over $200,000 worth of school supplies for shipment to Zimbabwe. Orphans who can't even afford a pencil receive enough supplies for the entire year through these gifts! |

Finally, ZOE establishes water projects at school in need of clean, accessible water. In one particularly drought prone area we were told that people from as far away as 3 miles were walking to collect water from the borehole at the school. In responding to the needs of these suffering children I’m reminded of a story I once heard about Jane Pittman. I was told that each time an African-American boy was born in her community that she would pick the infant up, hold him to her breast, and whisper in his ear the question, “Are you the one?” By this she was expressing her hope that God would one day raise up a deliverer for her people. As we provide for these children to be educated in a Christian environment we are essentially asking the same question. Today we very well may be helping to equip a child who one day will be used mightily of God to lead his/her people. Let us, in fact, pray that God would allow us such a privilege! |
